The Section’s goals are to provide new lawyers in Maine an opportunity to get involved in the state bar association, to provide networking and professional development opportunities, and to give something back to the community.
Who We Are: The Governing Council
The Section’s mission is accomplished through the elected Governing Council. The council is comprised of 13 individuals who meet on a regular basis to find ways to make sure the voice of new lawyers is heard and to organize events to enable our membership to become active and meet others in their profession.
We can introduce you to new lawyers across the state, involve you in our public service projects, provide you with substantive CLE and practical skills training programs, help develop your networking skills, and generally help you gain a professional advantage in your law practice.
This year, the Governing Council will be focusing its efforts in three distinct areas: 1) expanding the Section’s involvement in the community; (2) continuing to provide social events designed to bring our members together; and (3) increasing participation and professional development opportunities. At the annual meeting in January, committees were formed to help achieve results in each of the above three areas.
How Can You Get Involved?
The Section holds regular business meetings and sponsors networking and community events throughout the year. Members are always welcome to attend any business meeting or event of interest. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions about how we can better serve you and we look forward to hearing from you.

2004 & 2005 Annual Reports
In 2004 and 2005, the Section continued to provide networking opportunities and support for new lawyers and maintained its commitment to community service. In 2004, the Section was involved in the REACH program, coordinated by Legal Services for the Elderly, which expanded access to legal services for Maine’s most isolated and vulnerable seniors by bringing legal services to these seniors in their communities. Also in 2004, the Section continued to support the Frannie Peabody Center’s referral program for people with HIV or AIDS. In 2005, the Section advocated for its membership with student loans by submitting public comments to the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform. The Section also held an appellate advocacy luncheon with several members of the Law Court. Section members found time for fun and fellowship in many venues such as the MSBA Summer Meeting in Bar Harbor, taking advantage of recreational opportunities and the scenic beauty in Acadia National Park.
