| To make legal services readily available to individuals and families, the MSBA operates its long-established Lawyer Referral & Information Service. Through a toll-free telephone number (1-800-860-1460), callers are briefly interviewed and put in contact with a lawyer in their area who can handle the type of case they describe. As part of the LRIS program, the Maine State Bar Association charges $25 for using the service, but participating lawyers do not charge for the first half-hour of consultation. If the LRIS interviewer determines that callers may be better served through other legal assistance programs, this information is provided free of charge.
