MSBA Legislative Update

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The following are work sessions and public hearings scheduled on items of significant interest to a number of MSBA Sections. Please review the attached legislative database for legislative action on a number of other pieces of introduced legislation. Here are some highlights scheduled for the next two weeks:

Criminal Justice & Public Safety Committee

  • LD 1497 (relating to smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors) – Public Hearing is January 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 436 of the State House.

Judiciary Committee
  • LD 529 (creating a traffic court) – Work Session is January 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 438 of the State House
  • LD 1256 (prohibit pre-dispute mandatory binding arbitration) – Work Session is January 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 438 of the State House.
  • LD 1378 (adopt portions of Uniform Mediation Act) – Work Session is January 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 438 of the State House.
  • LD 1289 (Uniform Debt Management Services Act) – Work Session is January 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 438 of the State House.
  • LD 1511 (consideration of wishes of child during termination of parental rights) – Public Hearing is January 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 438 of the State House.


Appropriations Committee

Appropriations Committee hearing on supplemental budget (LR 2528) – January 8, 2010 – Attorney General; Maine Human Rights Commission; Judicial Branch; Indigent Legal Services Commission; Pine Tree Legal – starting at 9:00 a.m.
  • LR 2528, Part “UU” – regarding intestate succession and wills as it relates to surviving spouses supported by public benefits – January 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.


Health & Human Services Committee

  • LD 1364 (relating to personal assistance workers) – Work Session is January 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Room 209 of the Cross Office Building.
