Our Committee organized the May 14, 2002 and the October 17, 2002 Cumberland County swearing-in ceremonies for new Maine attorneys. Both ceremonies were followed by a much-appreciated reception sponsored by the Cumberland Bar Association.
We would like to thank Justice Calkins, Justice Dana, and the Cumberland County Bar Association, as well as all other participating justices and speakers for their assistance. Also, we especially thank Cumberland County Superior Court Clerk Sally Bourget and Administrative Clerk Gail Anderson for their assistance.
On October 21, November 4, and November 18, 2002, our Committee hosted the Bridging the Gap Program for newly-admitted members of the Maine bar. There were approximately seventy participants at the program. Several topics were presented, including state, district and superior court practice, federal court practice, bankruptcy, criminal law, civil practice, family law, real estate law, ethics, alternative dispute resolution, elder law and labor and employment law. We would like to thank the many judges and lawyers who generously donated their time and efforts to this worthwhile program. In addition to oral presentations, topics were addressed in a detailed one-volume text. We would also like to thank the Maine State Bar Association's staff, especially CLE Director Linda Morin-Pasco for her assistance in preparing and presenting the 2002 program.
